The wonderful historic cars, coming from Italy, Germany and Spain, were the real “stars” of this “starry” event. A star-studded event for top-of-the-range cars that received, parked in the Court of the Palazzo del Senato in Milan, the care of their owners as if they were thoroughbreds, waiting for a great race.
Here they exhibit aerodynamic shapes, long tails, slim and streamlined profiles, or aggressive fronts. We noticed the style of the 1930s, inspired by rationalism, the severe royalty of the Rolls-Royce, the sensual curves of the 1950s bodywork
We admired the luxurious flagships, the restless cabriolets and the timeless “Ladies of yesteryear” in blue livery. Practically the cars that made automotive history. The Grand Hotel Principe di Savoia was largely up to par in terms of elegance and attention, such as sending 10 shuttles to relieve the fatigue of returning the kind guests who had gone to the Fashion District, the Milanese sanctuary of luxury!
The exclusive Gala Dinner in the Hotel was an event within the event, for the sumptuousness of the environment, for the charisma of the guests – important entrepreneurs and authoritative figures – for the elegance of the ladies and, also, for the presence of the Honorable Isabella Tovaglieri, worthy of having always defended, within the institutions, the survival of historic motoring.
GLAMOR SPORT CULTURE
The OldCar24 organization offered participants – as in 2023 – an exclusive visit to one of the city’s jewels: the Casa Museo Bagatti Valsecchi, a treasure chest of rare objects, furnishings, ancient paintings, armour, which foreigners, and also many Italians , they didn’t know yet.
This link between sportsmanship and art aims to be a strong point of the Milano Portofino program also in the future.
All the guests particularly appreciated the constant assistance of the Carabinieri who, with motorcycles and cars, escorted the historic cars along the route from Milan to Portofino, with a fundamental operation for the success of the passage on busy roads.
Security patrols also gave comfort of safety to the crews. OldCar24 intends to always be particularly attentive to the logistical organization and protection of participants, for the entire duration of the events
COMPETITIVENESS AND BEAUTY
MILANOPORTOFINO is also an opportunity to discover unusual features of our landscape.
The organisation wants it to be an engaging and enthralling adventure, as well as a sporting one.
The first time trials took place in the grandiose park of an ancient castle, a seventeenth-century residence on the Tortona hills.
The green of the hills, the pleasant air of unpolluted places, have certainly made the transition from the countryside to the sea pleasant.
The 30 cars happily arrived – always escorted by the Carabinieri – at the Chiavari Marina.
Here, the Mayor and local authorities witnessed the timed trials, which made the race even more exciting.
The reception of the Ligurian city was above all expectations, as some participants declared, even superior to that of other places traditionally dedicated to amateur car racing.
A comfortable stop was at the historic Gran Caffè Defilla in Chiavari, among memories of illustrious people of the past, with an aperitif and home-made delicacies
PORTOFINO
After resting in the luxurious 5-star Portofino Coast Hotel, th participants parked the 30 cars in the legendary Piazzetta packed with people, where the “historic starry cars” were admired by those of all ages.
The brilliant surfaces, the cold and shiny steels, the colors of the bodywork, the details and insignia – unrepeatable today – of each car, the metal that has become shape under the expert hands of the panel beaters, the pulsation and the unmistakable voice of each engine, give these machines have an almost magical character, hence their fascination. MilanoPortofino 2024 ended in a splendid location: the multi-starred Cracco restaurant. Lunch is preceded by an aperitif on the terrace overlooking the Marina and the Gulf of
Tigullio. The sophisticated and flavorful cuisine of the great Chef made it an exhilarating experience of taste and luxury. Even the greeting to the guests that Carlo Cracco gave was a gesture of delicacy and style much appreciated by all the guests
