Margherita symbolizes Franzi’s relaunch. this model, born 150 years after the brand’s foundation, is dedicated to the queen of Italy, Margherita di Savoia, an icon of style with a strong personality.
Margherita is the first model presented by Franzi since its relaunch, more than 150 years after its foundation. It is dedicated to Margherita di Savoia, the Queen of Italy. Known not only for her beauty and elegance, Margherita was a queen much loved by her people. Socially and politically committed, she was a strong and sophisticated woman, perfectly embodying the spirit that guided Franzi’s creation.
This handbag is a re-edition of a piece from the brand’s historical archive. It has been partially modified to make it more feminine, more functional, and more contemporary. The bar with rivets – covered in leather or metallic – together with the iconic clasp stand out as distinctive elements, inspired by the world of travel.
The special feature of “Margherita” is that it has two faces and three different openings. The spacious central compartment opens with a hinge mechanism that makes access easier. On each face of the handbag, there is a semi-flat pocket for frequently used objects. The sides of the handbag are rounded and sinuous, emphasizing its femininity. The adjustable shoulder strap allows the handbag to be carried at different heights, either on one shoulder or crossbody. With uncompromising craftsmanship, great precision, and a constant strive to achieve the best, an eclectic and lavish handbag has been created. A fresh and modern handbag that relates to the brand’s past with an allure that is both nostalgic and playful.
To celebrate its versatility, the various leather and colour options ultimately aim at offering customers freedom of choice and self-expression, reaching more than twenty colour variants.
These are organised in three collections: the first, the “Main” collection, includes creations in Cuoio Franzi, with a leather-covered bar, combined with a neutral, fresh, and light lining. The second, the “Gold Collection”, featuring a visible metal bar, also has a neutral lining, while the third collection, celebrating the relaunch and so-called “Launch” collection, surprises with a coloured lining inside the handbag, inspired by a design from the past.
In addition to the lining pattern, the Franzi logo appears discreetly, printed in gold, on a leather label inside the handbag, and engraved on the buckle of the shoulder strap.
Every single element, from metal accessories to linings, is produced in Italy, as well as every single stage of the manufacturing process. “Margherita” is, therefore, an authentic Italian creation, a symbol of the quality and craftsmanship of Made in Italy.
The story begins when Rocco Franzi moves his workshop to Milan and opens, near the Duomo, a small store specialized in the production of fine trunks and suitcases in the 1840
Rocco comes from a family of craftsmen, who first worked in carpentry and then built trunks. The industrial revolution, together with the development of the service and transportation sectors, represent a business opportunity that prompts Rocco to move his business to the capital of Lombardy, Milano, in Via Arcivescovado, near the Duomo.
Amongst his most loved creations stands out the “Leggerissimo” trunk, symbol of Franzi’s innovative spirit.
Conceived to reduce the total weight of travellers’ luggage, the trunk allows a considerable reduction in transportation fees, guaranteeing solidity and durability over time. This trunk receives numerous awards, both nationally and internationally, and determines Franzi’s initial success.
In the Year 1864 Felice Franzi, Rocco’s ambitious son, officially establishes the “Valigeria Franzi” in the luxurious Via Manzoni.
Felice’s passion and dedication allow Franzi to guarantee the highest level of quality materials, craftsmanship and solid structures to withstand long journeys.
Inspired by the refined products of the more established European competitors, Franzi hires the most experienced French and Austrian craftsmen and imports modern tannery techniques from Germany, thus creating the first Italian luxury leather goods district.
The rapid growth of the business, supported by the success of the famous “Franzi suitcase”, leads Felice to open a proper factory, not only for the production of suitcases and trunks, but for all kinds of leather goods.
Felice Franzi, in recognition of his successes, is appointed Knight of the Italian Crown and in 1878 Officer of the Italian Crown.
Felice brings Franzi to serve the Royal Houses of His Majesty Vittorio Emanuele II, His Royal Majesty Prince Umberto, Queen Margherita, the Royal Prince of Naples, His Royal Majesty the Duke of Aosta, the Count of Turin and the Duke of Abruzzi. e onorificenze della Valigeria Franzi
Franzi charms Paris during the Universal Exhibition of 1900. And five years later, following the success of the Milan store, Franzi expands its dream and its network of stores beyond the Alps.
Expanding the boundaries of luxury, Franzi becomes the first manufacturer with an international sales network.
Franzi opens outlets not only on the Italian territory, but also in London and Vienna.
Franzi thus becomes the most aristocratic brand in the world, official supplier to 4 Royal Houses.
Oreste Franzi, son of Felice and grandson of Rocco, founds “Conceria Monzese”.
Thanks to his travels to Asia and long stays in China and Japan, Oreste discovers innovative carpentry and leather tanning techniques.
The “Conceria Monzese” becomes one of the first factories in Europe to produce leather treated with plant-based agents, embracing the theme of sustainability as early as the beginning of the 20th century.
1926 Oreste embarks on a new adventure by founding the “Società Anonima Fabbrica Italiana Bottiglie Isolanti” Franzi becomes one of the brands appreciated by the international jet set for its refined creations.
1943 World War II also hits the Franzi Company severely.
1946 Franzi participates in the Reconstruction of Italy and commissions the architect Carlo De Carli to design the new store in Milan.
Until the 1980 new Factory in Milan and new works more and more closely with the automobile and design industries, until the closure of the last production facility in 1998.
The rebirth of Franzi opens a new chapter in the history of Italian leather goods. Staying true to traditional values of craftsmanship and quality, Franzi redefines the concept of “Made in Italy” luxury.
Created with noble materials by skilled hands, yet designed to be functional and modern, Franzi luxury caters to the most discerning consumers.
Exquisite elegance, innovation, and exclusivity bring Franzi’s creations to life, carefully designed and crafted to meet the needs of the contemporary woman.
I love this kind of companies that pass down over time their manufacturing skills, the artisanal origin of the product, the exclusivity of the models, the productive expertise and the philosophy of the beauty of the unique, of the quality that is handed down from generation to generation like DNA, the quality of the construction that is expressed over time, the only reading tool that distinguishes a quality and luxury product from a normal product, made in series. The charm of the unrepeatable uniqueness, the solitude of the number ones.
A tribute to timeless elegance: Franzi launches the “Virginia” day-bag for its 160 anniversary
To celebrate its 160th anniversary, Franzi, Italy’s oldest luxury leather goods brand, chooses the historic Grand Hotel “Et de Milan” to present the new Virginia day-bag and the expansion of its timeless collection.
The “Virginia” day-bag: a tribute to the Countess of Castiglione
Inspired by Virginia Oldoini, a key political figure of the XIX century, whose beauty and intelligence influenced international diplomacy and the unification of Italy, the “Virginia” day-bag epitomizes elegance and practicality.

Crafted from the finest materials, it features a minimalistic, deconstructed design with a signature pointed gold-tone clasp. Its soft sides, with expandable tabs provide increased storage capacity, while the interior, lined in natural-toned fabric, includes a removable leather clutch, two semi-flat pockets and a zipped pocket.
Another zipped pocket at the back conceals the attachments for an adjustable and removable leather shoulder strap which offers complete freedom of movement. Made in the new soft Cuoio Franzi leather, the bag maintains its luxurious texture while being exceptionally malleable and soft to the touch.

Available in natural shades such as Cinnamon, Light Denim Blue, Moss Green, Dark Chocolate and Camel, the color palette is inspired by the picturesque landscapes of Italy.
160 Years of Travel with Style
To celebrate its 160th anniversary, Franzi revisits a ’70s steamer trunk turned into a bar, with exquisite glassware created in collaboration with Venini, the historical glassmaker. The trunk, covered in waxed canvas with the Pavè pattern, exemplifies Italian craftsmanship, featuring contributions from carpenters, leather artisans and glassmakers. Inside, it holds bartending essentials, a poker set and glassware and bottles in the signature Verde Franzi shade, crafted in partnership with Venini.
This collaboration between two Italian icons combines their expertise to produce a piece of exceptional value and sophistication. “Italy is a country with an extraordinary craftsmanship heritage.
This trunk is one object, but it incorporates the talents and traditions of multiple sec- tors, regions, brands and families. It is an exquisitely Italian creation.” – Marco Calzoni, CEO of Franzi. Italian craftsmanship is also celebrated with a silk foulard created by the artisans on the shores of Lake Como, which depicts key elements of Franzi’s history, such as the famous suitcases, luxury train interiors and the iconic Margherita handbag.
There are novelties also for Franzi’s iconic bag, Margherita, presented in the new “Starlight Edition”. Embellished with gold micro studs, reminiscent of a starry sky, it is available in Night Blue and Powder Pink.
Historic Location
The Grand Hotel “Et de Milan”, a historic landmark inaugurated in 1863 (just a year before Franzi’s foundation) serves as the perfect venue for this occasion.
“The choice of the Grand Hotel et de Milan is a tribute to our connection with the world of travel and to our long history of elegance and Milan-ness.” – Marco Calzoni, CEO of Franzi.
