The exhibition “24 OpeRE” (Italian for “24 Artworks,” with a deliberate play on the word “OpeRE,” which contains the capitalized “ORE,” meaning “hours” in Italian) represents an ideal day, where time is paced by Eberhard & Co., 24 artworks are displayed—one for every hour.

The exhibition takes on from the paradox between time as a measurable unit and time in its lived dimension. Like the hours of the day, each artwork differs in subject, serving not as static displays but as catalysts for rich exchanges of thought and reflection.

These interactions are particularly intimate and nuanced. What exchange, after all, could be more personal than the one between a work of art and the frame that embraces it?

The masterpieces by renowned photographers featured in the “24 OpeRE” exhibition are each framed by handcrafted creations: frames born from the skillful artistry of Cecé Casile. As Silvana Turzio aptly describes, these frames are “guides that lead toward the act of seeing, eye-training spaces, and lenses for interior myopia.”

The dialogue between an artwork and its frame is a fascinating and complex theme that has evolved over the centuries.

Far from being merely decorative, frames play a vital role in the interaction between a piece and its viewer.

Physically outlining and separating the artwork from its surroundings, the frame draws the viewer’s attention to the central image.

Visually and psychologically, the frame influences perception through its borders, spatial breathing, shadows, and perspectives, all of which play an essential role.

Cecé Casile’s insights and creations beautifully capture the poetic essence of this relationship, this exchange.

“Valuing time and reflecting on it through art, particularly photography, is a theme that has always been dear to the Maison,” says Mario Peserico, General Manager of Eberhard & Co. “Thanks to our collaboration with the fair, we explore this concept every year through engaging exhibitions. This year’s theme is especially captivating, given the presence of such an original artist like Cecé Casile in dialogue with renowned photographers, and the depth of content and reflections that this interaction generates.”

The 24 photographic artworks in the exhibition include pieces by Antonio Biasiucci, Carla Cerati, Daniele De Lonti, Mario Dondero, Luigi Ghirri, Mario Giacomelli, Arno Hammacher, Davide Mosconi, Tancredi Mangano, Francesco Radino, Aldo Tagliaferro, and Natale Zoppis.

    Cecé Casile

Born in Calabria in 1954, Cecé Casile pursued a diploma in ceramics before enrolling at the Brera Academy. Unable to resist the allure of working directly with materials, he left the Academy to immediately embrace the art of creation. He explored goldsmithing, chasing, and antique furniture restoration, eventually discovering his passion for framing almost by accident.

In 1976, he opened a workshop and developed friendships with artists of diverse styles, but his true inspiration came from photography. This led to his exploration of framing as both an artisan and a designer, curating exhibitions for activist photographers. His distinctive style, enriched by his extensive experience with ancient techniques and collaborations with painters, photographers, architects, and set designers, has resulted in a unique body of work. His artisanal creations are recognized for their refined design and exceptional craftsmanship.
